Tip of the Day - Make The Most Out Of A TradeShow

Six way-cool tradeshow tips:

  • Go to a show with an idea-oriented mindset, thinking of the whole programs of particular clients and possible applications for everything you see.
  • Use the divide-and-conquer strategy. Meet with other reps from your company before the show to plan how you will cover all the booths. Draw up a list of explicit customer wishes, plus other ideas you’re looking for and give each rep a printout of the list.
  • You can save time by scheduling meetings on the floor with only those preferred suppliers who don’t have local representation or who you don’t normally see back at the office. But be sure to stop by your local suppliers booths to at least say hello.
  • Suppliers’ networking events can be a great way for newer reps to form beneficial relationships with vendor partners.
  • Be sure to take advantage of education sessions and share what you’ve learned with other reps. Also, share product ideas back at the office.
  • Speak with suppliers about their newest products and which markets you should target, as well as ideas for great uses of tried-and-true items.

Don’t miss the first-ever ASI Women’s Summit

Guest blogger Dana Reaume, from ASI Education, drops a little knowledge on us today about the first-ever ASI Women’s Summit:

Film festivals, food tastings, Fleet Week, Broadway shows and parades … if these aren’t enough reasons to head to New York in May, then here’s one more! On May 4 (Education/Set-up Day for the ASI Show), ASI will host its first-ever Women’s Summit at the ever-so-posh Millennium Broadway Hotel from noon-3:30 p.m. I’m so excited about this event, as it’s jam-packed with one-of-a-kind networking activities and content built exclusively for women in the advertising specialty industry. Both distributors and suppliers are invited to participate to discuss new business approaches with colleagues while building their network.

Tuesday, July 21, Education Day & Counselor Awards

EDUCATION DAY:

  • ASI held a free luncheon for industry suppliers, during which a panel of top-selling distributor salespeople shared their insights and advice on what it takes to win their business and their loyalty. Watch a video of ASI’s Michele Bell interviewing Mike Riddle of Top 40 distributor WorkflowOne immediately after their session.
  • At one session during Education Day in Chicago, a panel of distributor experts explored the trends and sales techniques for five fast-changing markets. Counselor’s Dave Vagnoni spoke with Apur Sheth of Evigna (asi/155460) after the session. Watch the video here.
  • In the Wearables University session, “Top Decoration Techniques Decoded,” Ed Levy, owner of Digitize4U, broke down the most popular imprinting methods for attendees, explaining step-by-step how each is done and passing around samples. Watch Nicole Rollender, Stitches editor and director of education for ASI, talk with Ed Levy about why direct-to-garment printing is the imprinting technology to watch.

Wednesday, July 22, Day 1 from the Show Floor

  • Industry organization Quality Certification Alliance (QCA) – a group of 14 suppliers focused on certifying the safety of industry products – recently announced that it is opening up the organization to new members. Counselor Editor Andy Cohen caught up with two members of the group’s board for a video interview to find out about the mission of QCA.   • Wondering what ASI Chicago attendees were looking for as the headed out onto the trade show floor this morning? Counselor’s cameras caught up with some distributors just before they hit the exhibit booths. Click here to check out the video interviews.
  • Counselor Managing Editor Joe Haley scoured the trade show floor this morning for the latest and greatest products he could find. Click here to see what he found and to watch the Day One episode of The Joe Show from ASI Chicago.

  • Last night, attendees sailed around Lake Michigan on the four-level Spirit of Chicago boat. Our cameras were on-hand as distributors and suppliers enjoyed a full buffet and discoed with their best dance moves. Thursday, July 23, Day 2 from the Show Floor

  • Branding expert Harry Beckwith, strategic partner with Minneapolis-based Beckwith Partners and author of best-selling book Selling the Invisible, delivered an inspirational keynote speech on brand-building to a packed ballroom. “Relationships trump everything – the way you treat clients and connect with them is how you build your brand,” Beckwith told the audience of distributors and suppliers. Nicole Rollender, editor of Stitches and director of ASI education, caught up with Beckwith after his speech to find out more inspirational tips. Click here to watch the interview.
  • The ASI Show Chicago exhibit floor was teeming with hot products for the past couple of days. Actually, only one of us — Lil Spice — will be physically at the show, but thanks to social media we’ll be posting all happenings and content — including videos and Counselor Awards winners like the Distributor and Supplier Top 40s — in an easily accessible Twitter hashtag (#asichicago) for anyone to access!

Wait, what? If you’re confused by what I just said, let me break it down as simply as I can.

Suppose you can’t make it to this year’s ASI Show Chicago for whatever reason, maybe the economy’s kicking your arse and you can’t afford to go, but you’re still interested in accessing all the great content that is forthcoming, then all you need to do is click here and you will have everything at your fingertips!!! But how? ASI Show New York: Day 1 and Day 2 Highlights

The ASI Show New York has wrapped and we’ve got some highlights from Day 1 and Day 2.

Day 1:

  • ASI Internet Radio Show - Special guest ASI CEO and President Tim Andrews, interviews with suppliers from the show floor, and a game show including hoops (at right) and some prizes.
  • The Joe Show - Zany Counselor managing editor combs the show floors for new products and finds, among other things, a finger tip waver and a giant rubber golf ball.
  • Fashion Finds - Stitches’ Editor Nicole Rollender is back from maternity leave and looking for the hottest new wearables in the industry. Check out some cool apparel, including an eco-friendly bag.
  • Networking at Post-Show Reception - How did attendees like Day 1 of the show? And what is everyone up to in the Big Apple on Monday night? Joe Haley’s on the case.

Day 2:

  • How to Appeal to Women Buyers - Mary Lou Quinlan, founder of Just Ask A Woman, dishes on how distributors can improve their customer service by appealing to women buyers.
  • The Joe Show - Jugglin’ Joe Haley has seven new products he’d like to show you, including a kinetic wristband and cow bell.
  • Fun from the Show Floor - What was it like on the show floor at ASI New York? Our cameras caught up with suppliers, distributors and one enthusiastic, but not-so-talkative mascot.

Overall:
