November 3, 2008 Scrubs Step Up Their StyleFiled under: General
So the other day I bought a really cute, dressy shirt at Macy’s (on sale!) with a swirly blue and green pattern and a wide black band at the V-neck and the empire waist. I thought it was flattering and stylish, but when I tried it on for my husband, he thought it looked like a nurse’s scrub top. I was surprised when he said that, but then I looked at the shirt some more, I realized that it actually does look sort of scrubs-esque…sort of like the photo on the right, as a matter of fact. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, as my dear old friends on “Seinfeld” might say. And you know why there’s nothing wrong with that? Because this similarity didn’t happen due to the Macy’s clothing buyers suddenly shopping at hospital supply stores, but because today’s scrubs and uniforms market is sitting up and taking notice of what’s popular in retail, and thinking about what women – and men – might enjoy wearing for (at least) 8 hours a day. Our own Uniforms magazine recently ran an article about this style shift that’s been a long time coming. I think this can only be a good thing for the entire uniforms supply chain – suppliers, distributors, and end-buyers alike. I just hope no one near me ever needs immediate medical attention when I’m wearing my cute new top… -KB |
