November 6, 2008 How to Use Photo Gallery WidgetsFiled under: Education ASICentral will be launching its first customized photo galleries next week during the ASI Power Summit in Palm Beach, FL. The following are some basic instructions on how to use our slideshow photo gallery tools, or “widgets”, once they are live on the Web site: Each gallery is set up as a slideshow, which means the photos can automatically filter through at a predefined pace – for example, 3 seconds – that can be activated and adjusted by the user. But first, the user must start the gallery slideshow by clicking on the play button arrow in the center of the gray control at the bottom of galleries. Here are answers to some basic questions regarding the photo gallery widget’s utility. NOTE: Just follow the finger!
Q: How do I pause, adjust pace, fast-forward or rewind through images? A: Very simple. The gray control bar at the bottom of the photos allows you to do all of these. To adjust the pace of the slideshow, just click the icon that looks like Pac Man next to “3 SEC” – move the vertical slidebar up to slow the pace down (up to 30 seconds) and down if you’d like the pace to be quicker.
To stop the automated slideshow, simply click the play button in the center to pause it.
To start the slideshow again, click the same button. To control the slideshow yourself, click the pause button in the center and use the fast-forward button (to the right of center) and rewind button (to the left of center) to move through photos at your own pace.
Q: Is there an easier way to see all the images in a collection other than having to browse through the slideshow? A: Definitely! Just click the “Menu” button in the gray control bar at the bottom of the photos and thumbnailed versions of all the images will appear. You can scroll through the thumbnails simply by moving the cursor left or right, then click on the one you want to see. To close out of the thumbnails, click the “Menu” button once again.
Q: Can I view larger images without losing the slideshow experience? A: Most certainly. Just click on the icon to the far right of the gray control bar and the entire slideshow experience is now adjusted to fit your entire computer screen! To get back to the original screen, simply click your Escape key.
Q: Is there a way to get image information and details? A: Surely. Once you’ve selected an image, simply move your mouse or cursor over the image and a data window will appear that includes the photo title along with a plus sign all the way to the right. Click on the plus sign and you will receive more information about the picture, including description, contributor, play page option and ranking.
To remove this information, simply move your cursor from in front of the image or just click on the minus sign.
Q: How can I download, e-mail and rank images? A: In order to do this, you must view the play page of the image (NOTE: this will take you outside the slideshow viewing experience). Simply move your mouse or cursor into the photo frame, then click on the plus sign in the data window that appears. Then click on the “View Play Page” icon.
